Gaussian splats · 360 panoramas · lidar · one frame
Genomsyn is an open-source viewer that puts Gaussian splats, 360 panoramas, the lidar cloud and every capture position into one coordinate system. Move freely between capture points, then stand at one and blend the reconstruction with the original image.
Each layer answers a different question about the site. Because they share one frame, any view in one layer can be checked against the others without re-registration.
Photoreal free movement between capture points, including viewpoints the cameras never had.
SOG · PLYThe original image at each capture point, at full resolution, oriented by its registered pose.
Equirectangular JPEG · 8192 × 4096Measured geometry in the site's own coordinate system, for distances and fit checks.
E57 · RCS · LAZRings on the floor where each panorama was taken. Click one to stand there.
Registered poses · position + quaternionThe pipeline uses the poses the scanner already registered. Every step below is open source and runs on a single workstation GPU.
A mobile mapping scanner records lidar and 360 images on site.
Tested with NavVis VLX exports: registered panoramas, pose file, E57 clouds.
Panoramas and point clouds land in the same coordinate system, which can be tied to surveyed control points.
Pose file: ID; filename; timestamp; x; y; z; quaternion w, x, y, z.
Each panorama becomes twelve pinhole views with exact camera poses, written in COLMAP format.
8 views at 45° steps + 4 tilted 45° up · 1024 × 1024 px · 90° field of view.
Coloured lidar points seed the reconstruction in the same frame as the cameras.
500,000 points sampled from the cloud.
Gaussian splats are optimised against the views, with every eighth view held out for evaluation.
Brush v0.3.0 · MCMC · 30,000 steps · up to 3–4.5 million splats.
The result is cropped to the building, compressed and opened in Genomsyn beside the panoramas and the cloud.
splat-transform v3.8.0 → SOG, 3 SH bands · 44 MB for a 61-panorama hall.
First industrial run: a manufacturing plant in Sweden, autumn 2026.
The viewer, the dataset builder and the training scripts are released together. Every component underneath is MIT or Apache-2.0, so the whole stack can be run, changed and embedded without lock-in.
