Somewhere in Sweden, a wind-powered datacenter campus is being planned: a first grid connection in the ~100 MW class, with several times that behind it. This is the story of building it twice — once in the world where everything goes to plan on paper, and once in the world where the plan is rehearsed in reality's twin before a single excavator moves.

01 · The site

Forest, bedrock, cold air, and a wind park next door asking to be used. On paper it is perfect. Paper, however, is where infrastructure goes to be optimistic. The site's twin starts from measured reality: terrain, grid, climate, water, community.

02 · The world before

The traditional sequence: consultants → reports → permits → design freeze → construction → surprise. Grid capacity assumptions meet reality two years in. Cooling is re-engineered mid-build. Every surprise is discovered at the most expensive possible moment — in concrete.

03 · The world after — virtual first

The campus is built in the twin before it is built in the forest. Power flows, thermal envelopes, outage scenarios, wind intermittency, even the construction sequence itself — run hundreds of times virtually, failures included, before capital is committed. Web 4 in practice: reality as the interface, simulation as the default.

04 · Fine-tuned with SMILE
