Humans in the loop by choice — not by necessity.

Traditional manufacturing keeps humans in the loop because nothing else can see across it: no digital thread, long lead times, opacity as a way of life. Software-defined manufacturing inverts that. The operation becomes a software system with a physical actuator — humans can always observe, interact and intervene, transparently — but they no longer have to touch the physical world to change it end to end.
